JULIO GONZÁLEZ IN THE IVAM COLLECTION

00184
Julio González (Barcelona, 1876 – Paris, 1942) is one of the most outstanding sculptors of the twentieth century. His work, though not very numerous, appears in the leading museums of modern art, especially in the collections of the Musée National d’Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid) and the Museum of Modern Art (New York). The most important collection of work by Julio González is to be found at the IVAM and it consists of about 400 items (including sculpture, drawings, paintings and jewellery), obtained as a result of various acquisitions and, above all, the donations made by Carmen Martínez and Viviane Grimminger, who inherited the artist’s estate. The IVAM also has work by Julio González’s brother, Joan González (Barcelona, 1868 – 1908), and by his daughter, Roberta.

The IVAM devotes one of its rooms in the Julio González Centre to a permanent exhibition of the work of this sculptor.
