Conversation between the curator Juan Vicente Aliaga and the artists Rula Halawani and Nadia Benchallal on the occasion of the exhibition “In Rebellion. Female Narratives in the Arab World “.

This exhibition explores the realities of the Arab world since the 1990s, seen through the different perspectives of female artists. Also there are included works reflecting on the construction of femininity by men.

Through the use of devices such as photography and video, the political capacity for transformation of women as social agents becomes evident.

Four are the conceptual axes of this project: Private spaces, personal areas; The body, the desire, the sexuality; Places and symbols of the public, and finally, history, its folds and conflicts. Among the participating artists are works by Mona Hatoum, Amal Kenawy, Ahlam Shibli, Rula Halawani, Raade Saadeh, Zineb Sedira, Ghada Amer, Leila Alaoui …
